Overview
In certain scenarios you may want to have a recurring survey - using the same survey structure for the same set of participants to compare the previous responses of one participant to those submitted at different times. This method is useful in analyzing trends.
For example, in a satisfaction survey intended for customers that recently bought a car, you could run the survey one month after the purchase, again 1 year after, and compare the answers.
For such recurring surveys, you may find it convenient to have the participant see the survey pre-filled with their previous answers when they participate for the second time in the survey.
Follow the steps below to make use of the "Iterate survey" functionality:
Prerequisites
The following MUST be true before you launch your survey for the first round of data collection:
- the survey uses a survey participants table (closed-access survey)
- survey is not using anonymous answers
- survey is using token-based response persistence. You can verify this setting is enabled as shown below:
IMPORTANT: Please note that all conditions above must be met in order to see the Reiterate survey button displayed in the Responses panel.
How to run it
Activate the survey and collect the answers from your participants.
To run the same survey for the second time:
- Do not deactivate the survey after the first set of responses are recorded
- From the left menu, click the Responses menu:
- You will be on the Display responses page
- You will want to export your responses so that you will be able to compare them to the new ones later (comparison would typically happen off-line in a data viewer of your choice).
- IMPORTANT: If you wish to import your responses back into a separate copy of the survey at a later date, be sure to export your responses in the VV file format.
- Once you have saved your responses, click the Iterate survey button located on the top toolbar:
Once you click above, you will see this notice:
- This will:
- Reset all tokens statuses to "not used",
- Reset all responses statuses to "not submitted".
When you send invitations to participants to complete the survey, they will click on their survey link and the original response will be loaded -- they can then proceed to review their responses, make changes as they wish, and then submit the survey.
