Once you've logged into LimeSurvey, you'll see the Surveys dropdown -- at the top right of the interface. You will see the surveys that are available in your account:

step1

Select the survey you wish to work with. A new row of icons will appear, and these give you access to all the features you need to build and manage your survey. Hover your mouse over each icon to see a tool tip

Before you begin building your survey, you'll want to set up some global features that define how your survey behaves.

step1a

Click on General Settings.

There are five tabs that take you though the key elements required to setup your survey parameters:

  • General : The name of your survey, a friendly description, a welcome and completion message
  • Presentation & Navigation : Specify how your survey is displayed to respondants, what page they should be taken to when they complete the survey, whether to show statistics publically, and a selection of layout templates
  • Publication & access control : specifiy start/end dates for your survey, specify whether you want to use tokens (tokens allow you to restrict responses only to users who have been given a tokens), and whether to use captcha's to prevent bots from hitting your survey
  • Notification & data management : set up whether to be notified by email when a submission is completed, whether to track the IP of respondents, and enable/disable assessments (Assessments are rules which evaluate the responses to a survey immediately after it is submitted, and then display text blocks to the participiant based on that evaluation).
  • Tokens : On many occasions you will want to invite a group of people to participate in your survey, keep track of who has completed the survey, and ensure that each person can only participate once. The tokens feature allows you to do this.
  • Resources : Allows you to import LimeSurvey survey structures from backup files.
